Introduction to Medical Microbiology. Basic concepts and terminologies. infection and disease
pathogenicity and virulence, immunity, hypersensitivity, latency and communicability. Pathogenic
properties of bacteria: invasiveness, toxigenicity and exotoxins, virulence properties. Host defense
mechanisms: skin and mucous membrane barriers, phagocytic defense and inflammation,
bacterial infection. The pathogenicity, morphology and cultural characteristics of certain groups
of bacteria. Gram-positive bacteria – bacillus, clostridium, staphylococcus and streptococcus;
gram-negative bacteria – the family enter bacteria, Neisseria, pseudomonas and vibrio; mycotic
