Course Description
Goal: To equip the student-teacher with the professional knowledge and skills of management of students’ leaning through creative thinking and practical approach. Course Objectives: At the end of the course, the student teacher should be able to - Describe the role of the teacher as the planner, interpreter and executor of teaching leaning process. - Know the basic principles of teaching - Understand lesson preparation, lesson notes and lesson patterns - Understand the general principles and practice of planning the order of the instructions of programmes. - Understand the principles and application of teaching of various methods - Understand the methods of evaluation of teaching of various methods and techniques. - Participate in micro-teaching activities.
Course Outline
UNIT 1. Principles and Application of Teaching Methods and Techniques Concept of teaching method Description of the nature and use of the following methods of teaching Lecture method Discussion, conference, seminar, workshop and tutorial method Practical demonstration method Experimentation Project method, e.t.c NOTE: The discussion on teaching methods may be structured as follows: the concept and its application general requirement and necessary preparatory procedures for successful application order of sequence of conduct indices of success on the use of the method UNIT 2.The Teaching – Learning Process The concept of teaching – learning process The role played by teachers as planners, interpreters and executors of teaching – learning process. Management of teaching – learning process Distinguished between the general feature of active and passive approaches to teaching and learning. Description of the general features of the following types of learning: Experimental learning Discovering learning Mastering or competency- based learning Distinction between teaching methods and teaching techniques UNIT 3. The teaching plan principles.  Description of the teaching Plan  Development of teaching Plan  Functions of the teaching plan  Factors influencing preparation and use of teaching plan UNIT 4. Scheme of Work/Instructional Time Table Concept of scheme of work Concept of time table Basic consideration in the planning of instructional time table Instructional policy in the use of teaching facilities Instructional policy of teaching staff development Academic structure of the institution (how academic departments are structured and related) UNIT 5. Evaluation process The meaning and dimensions of evaluation The importance of evaluation in teaching- learning process UNIT 6. Micro Teaching
