At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. discuss the basics of clinical microbiology as it pertains to oral pathology; 2. describe the pathogenesis and oral manifestations of common bacterial, viral and mycotic infections of the oral cavity; 3. outline their investigative tools (including serology) and their histopathological features; 4. describe the anatomy of the healthy periodontium; 5. outline local and systemic factors associated with periodontal diseases; 6. explain the etiology and histopathology of dental caries; and 7. discuss the classification, etiology, clinical features and management of osteomyelitis.
