Course Description
At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. know the impacts organizations have on environment and respective responses; 2. acquire the skills of applying the EMS tool (Environmental Management System) in managing organizations significant environmental impacts; and 3. know different types of standardized environmental management system.
Course Outline
The course explores the impacts organizations have on the environment and the ways they can respond to protect themselves and the environment. The use of Environmental Management System EMS as a tool for managing organizations significant environmental impacts is introduced. The course also introduces the different types of standardized environmental management system such as the British Standards Institutions BSI 7750, European Commissions, Eco- Management and Audit Scheme EMAS, the International Organization for Standardizations ISO 14001. The different elements of an EMS are also highlighted.
