General Chemistry Practical I

Course Description
At the end of this course, the Students should be able to:
1. identify and carry out preliminary tests which includes ignition, boiling point, melting point,
test on known and unknown organic compounds;
2. carry out solubility tests on known and unknown compounds;
3. carry out elemental tests on known and unknown compounds; and
4. carry out functional group/confirmatory test on known and unknown compounds which could
be acidic/ basic/ neutral organic compounds.
Course Outline
Continuation of CHM 107. Additional laboratory experiments to include functional group analysis,
quantitative analysis using volumetric methods.
