Introductory Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology/Pathological Aspects of Oral Disease

At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. recognise the macroscopic and microscopic features of normal tissues and the pathological basis of diseases; 2. identify aspects of normal oral biology and pathophysiology that are relevant to the practice of oral and maxillofacial pathology; 3. identify principles of fixation of tissues and tissue processing procedures; 4. describe principles of advanced diagnostic techniques for example, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and the uses of these techniques; 5. apply clinical knowledge to formulate clinicopathological correlations; and 6. diagnose basic histopathological changes in biopsies.
