Investigations, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in Orthodontics

At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. take history and examine an orthodontic patient; 2. appreciate the rationale for each step; 3. identify, discuss the indications for, and describe the various radiographic and non- radiographic investigations in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics; 4. describe the different classes of malocclusion; and 5. explain the basic principles of management of the various classes of malocclusion.

Examination of an orthodontic patient. Assessment of crowding and space analysis. Methods of investigating/assessing soft tissue form and function. Radiology for orthodontics. Orthodontic treatment plan for angle’s class I, class II division 1, class II division 2, class III. Malocclusions, their features and treatment be able to sequentially and exhaustively take history and examine an orthodontic patient and discuss the rationale for each step.
