Description
This seminar examines how artificial intelligence is reshaping higher education and the skills universities need to develop for an increasingly AI-driven economy. It moves beyond an introduction to AI to critically examine its implications for university curricula, teaching and learning, assessment, research, graduate employability, and the future of academic work.
Participants will explore the changing skills and competencies required by employers, assess the limitations of traditional curricula, and consider how AI literacy, data literacy, critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, ethical reasoning, and AI governance can be incorporated into university education. The seminar also considers the opportunities and risks associated with generative AI, including academic integrity, bias, privacy, responsible use, and human oversight.
Using practical examples and guided discussion, participants will develop recommendations for making Nigerian universities more responsive to technological change and better preparing graduates for an AI-enabled workplace. The session concludes by considering what universities should teach differently, teach additionally, or stop teaching as AI becomes increasingly capable.
