At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. recall the concept of Speech-Language Therapy; 2. express the relevance of Speech-Language Therapy Profession; 3. describe the development of Speech-Language Therapy practice; 4. list some qualities expected of Speech-Language Therapists; and 5. discuss some ethical issues in Speech-Language Therapy practice.

Importance of Speech-Language Therapy. Development and disorders of speech. Development and disorders of language. Place of Speech-Language Therapy in Medical Rehabilitation or allied heath professions. Foundations of Speech-Language Therapy in Education, Arts, Psychology and Medicine, Contemporary Speech-Language education. Attributes of Speech-Language professionals. Challenges and prospects of Speech-Language practice. Professional ethics of Speech-Language Therapy practice.
