Epidemiology and Principle of Control of Non-communicable Diseases, Chronic Diseases and Cancers of Global Importance

At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. describe principles of prevention and control of non-communicable diseases; 2. identify latent period, risk factor, causal and no causal association; 3. describe epidemiology and control of common NCDs in Nigeria including hypertension, obesity, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, sickle cell disease, SCD, asthma/COPD, RTAs, common cancers, mental disorders; 4. list risk factors associated with NCDs including lack of physical activities, unhealthy dietary habits, alcohol, cigarette smoking, lifestyle; and 5. discuss legislative aspect of control of NCDs.
