Course Description
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. describe the engineering properties of rock and soil materials; 2. identify the geological factors affecting the performance and functioning of a facility on and in the soil and/or rock; 3. conduct engineering geological investigations; and 4. explain the importance of engineering geology-related technical issues during construction.
Course Outline
Geology structures and mapping; rocks and minerals; stratigraphy - time scale - fossils and their importance with special reference to Nigeria. Introduction to the geology of Nigeria; engineering applications - water supply, site investigations for dams, dykes and so on.
