Orthodontic Laboratory Technique II

Course Description
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. apply the principles of function and occlusion in the fabrication of orthodontic appliances;
2. recognise a satisfactorily constructed orthodontic appliance;
3. list and describe the materials and equipment necessary for the construction of orthodontic
appliances;
4. apply the principles of design of orthodontic appliances in the fabrication of the orthodontic
appliance; and
5. construct all types of removable and functional orthodontic appliances.
Course Outline
Different types of wires and the dimensions of the wires. Introduction to all the orthodontic work
instruments. Practical sessions on wire bending, fabrication of different anchorage devices.
Demonstration of different types of screws. Manipulation of acrylic resins for different orthodontic
devices. Demonstration and construction of appliances with such anchorages.
