Course Description
At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. understand the language of vision as the building blocks of art and design; 2. appreciate the language of vision in the processes of making art and designing; 3. understand the vocabulary, characteristics, physical properties and role of colour in art and design; 4. relate the above to the laws of formal organization or principles of design such as forms of balance, harmony, repetition, variation, unity, economy, proportion; 5. appreciate the language of vision and the laws of formal organization and their derivation from nature; 6. engage design and art practice from the knowledge foundation above; and 7. evaluate and appreciate works of art.
Course Outline
This course introduces basic vocabularies of visual arts, emphasizing elements and principles of design, the nature of colour and colour theories, and the means to visual expression. The aim is to open the dynamics of the creative process and thinking by exploring and developing concepts that rely on various artistic mediums in two- and three-dimensional spheres for specialists and non-specialists alike.
