Course Description
At the end of this course, the students should be able to: 1. explain the focus and scope of the Water Resources Engineering Programme; 2. recognise the domestic and industrial use of water; 3. familiarise with the concept of water exploration through boreholes; and 4. gain awareness of career opportunities for the water resources engineer in the public and private space.
Course Outline
Introduction: Definition and scope of water resources engineering. Use of water for irrigation, water supply and wastewater engineering, navigation, hydropower generation, environmental sanitation and industrial use. Introduction to surface water hydrology and groundwater hydraulics, control structures such as dams, reservoirs, e.t.c. Introduction to pollution control and abatement. Introduction to field measurement and computation in water resources engineering. Career opportunities in water resources engineering. 200 Level
