Introduction to Clinical Work in OT I

At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. demonstrate entry-level knowledge and skills necessary for the assessments of patients to identify occupational dysfunction; 2. apply the theory and techniques for measuring occupational performance as well as physical and physiological entities such as vital signs, strength, muscle tone, joint range of motion, respiratory capacity, circulatory status, pain, balance, posture, gait, and coordination; 3. critically review models and outcome measures used by occupational therapists for different client groups with a focus on reliability, validity, specificity and sensitivity of the tests; and 4. discuss the relevance and application of functional outcomes in research in clinical practice.

Hands-on assessment, treatment planning, and client intervention. Learning to be part of the therapy team and professionally interacting with clients and healthcare providers. Translation of professional behaviour, observation skills, performance skills, and clinical application of knowledge into a clinical setting.
